Kenya Premier League Initiative to Support Missing Child Kenya wins African Advertising Awards

The African Cristal Media & Advertising Summit, formerly the African Cristal Festival, held its 2019 edition from June 13 to 16 in Marrakech under the theme of “Positive Brands”; a festival where the world of advertising and communication meets for business meetings and the distribution of awards for the most striking ideas and cultural specificities of the African advertising world.

The central theme of the 2019 edition was; How are the Positive Brands  built on a new perception of progress and a sensitive approach to the new requirements of sustainability and balance? Or, how do people and nations face the urgencies of the planet in a changing world?

Megha Dutta, Creative Director at Express DDB Kenya  and the project lead received a Grand Prix, 2 Golds and Silver award for the humanitarian sports initiative. Kenya Premier League ( KPL) in Partnership with Gor Mahia and AFC football clubs supported Missing Child Kenya’s cause for awareness to celebrate International Missing Children’s day 2019 through a CSR initiative during the 2 clubs’ Mashemeji Derby encounter on Sunday May 19 2019 at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.

Across the world, footballers are accompanied to the pitch by child mascots as a way of honoring the role played by these children. The 2 team players walked across the pitch holding photographs of missing children to raise awareness about this alarming trend in Kenya. KTN Kenya aired the Live Match across Kenya and in the following week there was a massive positive response from media houses across the country, which led to 4 of the 22 children featured being found and reunited with family; a testimony of the power of positive brands and positive media.
